Lincoln Heights
Lincoln Heights is one of Los Angeles’ first residential suburbs. It was subdivided in 1873. Lincoln Heights was originally named “East Los Angeles” and is located northeast of downtown. The zip code for this area is 90031.In 1876, Griffin and Downey established one of the city’s first streetcar lines to connect the East Los Angeles subdivision with downtown. Houses in Lincoln Heights vary in architecture and include examples of Victorian-era, Arts and Crafts, and Period Revival styles. The majority of residences were not architect-designed, but builder/contractor or homeowner constructed, and housed working- and middle-class families. The Lincoln Heights HPOZ was adopted by the City Council in 2004.
Lincoln Heights has been trending for ADUs due to their delicious and vibrant food scene. The community is made up of mostly younger people, as the median age is 27 years old. The street food scene along Artesian Street - already active for about a decade - has been booming especially this year. Though Avenue 26 Tacos still holds the central, largest spot, the stands have expanded to dozens of vendors, offering everything from Thai-Chinese food, to micheladas, to tri-tip barbecue sandwiches, as well as clothes, accessories and toys. Much of the growth can be credited to TikTok, which has hosted videos showing off the vendors and the street dancing.
